5 Lavender Shrub Cocktails to Make at Home

5 Lavender Shrub Cocktails to Make at Home

A good shrub does the work of three ingredients at once. It brings fruit, sweetness, and acidity to a drink, so you can skip the simple syrup and the citrus. Our lavender shrubs are made by hand on our farm, and they make cocktails taste layered with very little effort.

Each recipe makes one drink. Shake with ice unless noted, and taste as you go, since you may like yours sweeter or tangier.

Honey Pear Bourbon Smash

Made with Lavender Honey Pear Shrub

2 oz bourbon

1 oz Lavender Honey Pear Shrub

3 dashes bitters (optional)

Ice and a thin pear slice

Shake bourbon, shrub, and bitters with ice. Strain over a large cube and garnish with the pear. Warm and mellow, it's our favorite for fall evenings.

Blueberry Lemon Gin Fizz

Elderberry Old Fashioned

Made with Lavender Elderberry Shrub

2 oz bourbon or brandy

3/4 oz Lavender Elderberry Shrub

2 dashes orange or aromatic bitters

Lavender Shrub Spritz

Made with any of our four flavors

1 oz shrub of your choice

3 oz prosecco or dry sparkling wine

Pour the shrub into a wine glass over ice, add prosecco and sparkling water, and stir gently. This is the easiest party drink we know. Set out all four flavors and let guests choose.

Tips for Cocktails with Shrubs

Start with 3/4 to 1 oz of shrub per drink, then adjust.

Cut back on other sweeteners. The shrub is already sweet.

Taste before adding citrus. Our shrubs have a tang from vinegar, so you may need less lemon or lime than usual.

Shake gently before opening. Natural sediment is normal in a shrub made with real fruit and herbs.

Refrigerate after opening and use within 6 months.
